On Tuesday, the Lady Beavers traveled to Pocatello to face the Indians in an out of conference match-up. This would be a game of redemption for the Beavers after losing 8-0 last year to the Indians. Not only that, they would have to do it without both starting center backs due to injuries sustained in the last two games. The first half was an intense battle with both teams failing to capitalize on numerous opportunities. Pocatello created a few more chances but A.F. had several quality opportunities themselves. With the changes in line-up it did show on the field for the Lady Beavers. There were times of being disorganized but they managed to get out of the half 0-0. Brenda Palacios stepped up huge playing in the back line. She cleared and denied many goal scoring attacks.
The second half was very similar in play. The Beavers came out strong for the first 10 minutes of play. Then they conceded a corner kick and Pocatello was able to put that away to take the lead 1-0. Shortly later Cynthia Castro created a penalty opportunity and netted another goal after successfully finishing a penalty kick. The game battled hard for about 10 more minutes and Pocatello was able to score by catching the defense out of position. That seemed to take the wind out of the sail. Coach Mario said " I think we beat ourselves. The attitude after giving up the second goal just deflated us. You could see it in the girls. Pocatello Flat out hustled us in the final 20 minutes of the game." They final score ended up 3-1. The Beavers travel to Snake River on Thursday for their second conference game.
